WIll it come out okay if I add food coloring to Peanut Butter Cookie recipe?

I really want to use my favorite pb cookie recipe for my Christmas gift baskets this year but was hoping to give them some Christmas color – if I added red or green food coloring would they come out or would they just be an ugly color? Thanks
